Afterschool Podcasting is a fully turn-key enrichment program that empowers kids and teens of all ages to plan, write, record, and publish real audio podcasts — no experience required.
From New York to California, students in diverse communities have used our program to discover their voices, build confidence, and develop skills that last far beyond the classroom. We bring everything your school needs: expert instructors with experience at institutions like the BBC, NPR, StoryCorps, and Story Pirates; a proven curriculum; professional recording equipment; and full post-production and publication support. Your school or program provides the students — we handle the rest.

David Hoffman
Since founding CitizenRacecar in 2012, David has been responsible for shaping and growing the company, and supervising the creative direction its work. He lives in Washington, DC with his wife, a museum executive, and two children. In his spare time, he enjoys playing music, cooking, reading, collecting records, and BBC detective shows.

Luca Evans
Luca (they/them) is a freelance audio producer specializing in stories about science, climate justice and the environment. They have made podcasts for the likes of The Guardian, the BBC and Audible, and created an award-winning indie podcast centering youth voices around the climate crisis. Emily Duncan
Emily is an arts administrator, producer, and musician based in NYC. She has been the production manager for several off- and off-off-broadway shows, collaborating with companies such as Out of the Box Theatrics, PAC NYC, and Target Margin Theater. She currently works on the podcasts “Per My Last Email” with Active Voice and the dis/misinformation correction podcast “Unchecked.” When she’s not deep in a spreadsheet, Emily is likely working on her spooky Shirley Jackson flute opera.

Taylor Cook
Taylor is an award-winning audio producer, editor, and educator based in Brooklyn, New York. She has worked as a producer on KFF Health News podcasts including “Silence in Sikeston,” “Epidemic: Eradicating Smallpox,” and “American Diagnosis.” Her work has also appeared on the Brooklyn Public Library podcast “Borrowed” and the BRIC podcast “Brooklyn, USA.” In her free time, Taylor loves visiting New York City’s public parks, pools, and beaches.

Emily Hsiao
Emily is a freelance audio producer and creative project manager based in Brooklyn, NY. Her work is driven by a belief in the power of thoughtful storytelling to connect individuals, communities, and causes. She spent a decade at StoryCorps managing strategic partnerships, developing the production arm of StoryCorps Studios, and helping organizations transform their communities’ experiences into compelling audio and visual narratives. Emily is excited to encourage students’ creativity through the possibilities of audio storytelling.

Monique T. Marshall
Monique T. Marshall is an accomplished podcast coach and the esteemed host of The Black To Business Podcast. With a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, specializing in Supply Chain Management from Howard University, Monique brings a unique blend of expertise and entrepreneurial spirit to her coaching role. Her podcast has garnered widespread recognition, including being featured on Apple Podcast’s Black History Month Collection, Secure the Bag, 21Ninety’s “10 Podcast Every Black Woman Entrepreneur Needs To Check Out,” and the 2022 #AmplifyBlackVoices Black Podcast list powered by Wondery Media. With a proven track record of success, Monique has also taught podcasting in multiple schools, empowering students and aspiring entrepreneurs to share their stories and amplify their voices.

JoAnn DeLuna
JoAnn DeLuna is an award-winning journalist/audio producer/editor, Spanish translator, and poet. She’s produced, managed, and launched shows for outlets including NPR, Sony, Pharrell Williams’ OTHERtone, Pushkin, TED Audio Collective, and more.
She began her career working for newspapers along the US Mexico border as an education and crime reporter. For a decade, JoAnn covered the travel industry from Europe—where she lived for 4 years—Asia, the Americas, and eventually from New York. Her English and Spanish poetry is published in anthologies in California, New York and Texas. JoAnn has performed throughout NYC in venues including Lincoln Center, Nuyorican Poets Café, The Bushwick Starr, Ludlow House, Magnet Theater, The PIT, and more.

Jake Miller
Jake is a freelance audio engineer, producer and musician based out of Ridgewood Queens. He has worked on content for such brands as Ben and Jerry’s, Vox Media, ABF Creative and Wondery among others and has worked on several award winning podcasts.
